As the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) helps clients prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic decisions. The Country Analysis division of the EIU is seeking applications for the role of Analyst (policy), China. We are looking for someone with a strong interest in and knowledge of China’s policy environment, as well as an ability to communicate their views and opinions effectively in both oral and written form. Strong qualitative skills in policy analysis and interpretation are a prerequisite for this role. The Analyst (policy), China will join a team of analysts working on China and Asia and report to the Principal Economist, China.


How you will contribute:

  • Produce policy forecasts for China and its regions across the range of EIU products and ongoing policy analysis on key themes and events in China
  • Ensure all output meets EIU standards and is produced according to editorial deadlines
  • Edit and enhance content received by external contributors; identify and manage external contributors that support the analysis and forecasts
  • Play an active role in the origination of country and regional content work that elucidates and develops The EIU view on China
  • Promote our work on this topic within The Economist Group and externally, and liaise directly with external clients and media organisation on behalf of The EIU
  • Provide briefing engagements and other presentations to clients when required
  • To work collaboratively with senior EIU staff members to support new business development and implement divisional strategy

To succeed in the role you must have:
  • At least 3 years’ work experience in relevant positions and/or demonstrable experience, such as through a PhD
  • Strong, demonstrable knowledge of China’s policy environment; interest in specific policy areas in China and/or sub-national policy developments is desirable
  • Native-level written and oral communication skills in English; reading fluency in Mandarin Chinese (if not a native speaker)
  • A Master's degree
  • Strong knowledge in MS Office especially Excel and Powerpoint

You will be able to demonstrate:
  • Attention to detail and ability to ensure consistent high quality products and services
  • An ability to interpret and articulate the significance of policy developments in China
  • Strong interest and analytical rigour in issues covering economic, political and risk analysis
