10 Stand-up Comedy Secrets

It is really a book of 10 secrets in 13 pages. I downloaded this book 3 months ago and read it in 46 minutes. Firstly, I want to present new expressions I have learned from this short "article".

control freaks: 控制狂,I like this phrase because of its suggestiveness.

pet peeve: a frequent subject of complaint. 在美剧老友记里,What is Monica's biggest pet peeve?

Comic's Cliches are all the commonly used phrases comics repeat because they heard other comics use them.

comic: an entertainer who makes people laugh by telling jokes or funny stories.

M.C.: master of ceremonies 在韩综里经常看到这个单词,刘在石是我最爱的韩国M.C.,何炅是中国人最爱的M.C.之一~~~

There are 10 secrets:

1. have an introduction;

2. never tell the M.C., "Just say anything"

3. greet the audience

4. have an opening line

5. when the audience is laughing - shut up

6. when you talk during the laughs you train the audience to stop laughing

7. remain in the same state of mind you were in when the laugh began

8. allow the audience response to affect you

9. have a closing line

10. get the light and get off.

No matter what you are doing, you should behave decently and politely. Your manner speaks louder than your words. As a comic, you need to make people laugh with your words. However you have to consider the connection between you and the audience or your workmates. If you want to work freely and happily, you should treat the others the same. I like the 5th secret, because I have been too nervous to caring about others.

Beginner comedians will spend hours working on their material, deal with their insecurities and fears, wait hours for stage time, take a huge psychological risk to get in front of an audience, and then when they get that precious laugh... they completely ignore it and talk or even yell over it .

You must be aware of the audience and how they are responding or not responding to your show. The information that tells you what to talk and when to shut up is the audience, not your material.

Ritualization makes things clearly and elegantly. A good opening line and closing line make the performance perfectly.
