English Article: How the mighty have fallen - Goldman Sachs

GS has outshone the wall-street 15 years ago with its excellent performance during the chaotic time. However, it's running into trouble right now. $1 investment in GS in 2014 would only have $1.6 return now, compared to that of $3.6 S&P and $4.1 for JPM Chase.

Major reasons to this is the declining profits from capital market activity. This resulted from: (1) Tighter control on financing activity and compliance from the government. (2) Increase importance of technology where customers and corporate borrowers are shifting to digital banks.

GS's focus right now is to: (1) Provide a wider range of service like JPM by growing its consumer arm to attract more deposit. (2) Transform the culture into a more diverse one.

If it failed, a M&A like WFG and GS would be possible.
