Napier引领Rackspace14年功成身退

Lanham Napier将从Rackspace CEO职位退休，公司周一宣布了这个消息，公司执行主席Graham Weston将重返CEO一职，此前他曾在1999-2006年担任过该职位，之后继任者便是Napier。Weston现在是临时CEO，公司董事会将寻找长期的继任者。

Rackspace的管理层最近很不稳定，去年七月，前总裁Lew Moorman由于家人健康问题辞职，从那之后Napier便接管他所有的工作，上个月Rackspace任命销售主管Taylor Rhodes 担任总裁一职。

Napier从43岁到公司以来，已经在公司工作了14年了，他表示：

“我只是从工作岗位上退了下来，而不是永远离开公司了，我还会为公司做我力所能及的任何事的。”他打算先休息一段时间，然后会投入到教育事业“first-generation Americans”。

市场对Napier的离开持悲观态度，其股票也直线下跌。虽然Rackspace股价在周一盘后交易遭受重创（Rackspace股价下跌11.55%，从收盘价的40.26美元跌到35.70美元），但是公司不会急于任命新的继任者。

虽然市场对Napier的离开表示惊讶，但是即将离职的Napier表示，公司对寻找一个新的继任者毫无压力。

Napier表示：“只要有Taylor和Graham在，就不会有大的风险。”

Taylor Rhodes是一个非常又才华和激情的领导者，在他的领导下，Rackspace从一个初创公司发展成一个价值15亿美元的上市公司，还曾经是纽约证券交易所发展速度最快的公司，为20万用户服务。

怀疑论者认为，在公有云领域竞争者Microsoft、 AWS 和Google价格战愈演愈烈之际，Rackspace高层的变动，对公司来说不是一个好消息。无论从哪方面说，这些公司都将有能力去蚕食Rackspace的市场。

公司的OpenStack私有云是一个“市场扩张器，”Rhodes说。“在这之前，客户必须进入我们的数据中心和付费使用我们的模型。现在CIO想将自己变的更像服务提供商，那些运行VMware或微软内部堆栈的客户，想要一个开放替代的产品。这使我们的多租户公有云和私有云之间互操作性发展到一个新的水平。”

但即使Rhodes也承认，Rackspace互操作性还不完善，也不可能去攻击混合云市场来伤害竞争对手——包括VMware和微软。

不过，我必须提醒自己，我们很早就进入云计算时代。如果Rackspace能够经受住让企业客户支付佣金的恶性竞争，它就可以安全度过这个危险时期。
