Work Overtime

How often do you work overtime? As a employee of company, we have responsibility to handle various matters in work. Sometimes, it's inescapable to work overtime with accidents. How do you balance your work and life? I have interviewed two friends to talk about that.

'I almost work overtime everyday. It's a normal thing and nobody gives us overtimepay. What we do everyday seems voluntary labor. It's difficult to balance work and life. Sometimes,I can't be understood by my family. It makes me regretful a lot to do more work for better life.' Julie said.

Another friend Sophia said 'Extra work is commonly in manufacture industry. The factory I have worked previously, as a technicist and workshop worker, they often work overtime with extra salary. Unfortunatly, there's no extra paying should be accepted and adoptted for employees from other departments.'

Obviously, we should make plans of work to improve our efficiency. More than two people would be better to supervise each other. If I am alone, i need to make a to-do-list, classify all of items according to important and urgent or not. At the same time, setting clock alarms to limit time.

Someone prefers to work and improve his ability in career, someone prefers to company with friends and family. If you think that's imbalance, you should consider work efficiency and this job is suitable or not.

Working overtime is commonly seen in countries worldwide. In east Asia, working overtime is seen by much devotion and professionalism. However, certain labor contracts do exist that require 120% of the staff, for example the workers on the Foxconn assembling lines. That causes the drainage of time and energy, and may be an extreme form of work-life imbalance.

To reach a work-life balance, one needs to consider his or her identity in work. Most of the time compromises are made when the identity in work cannot satisfy the ideals in life. It is highly suggested that we could make the most of the time beyond the working hours, to smell the flowers, to spend quality with loved ones, and to chill out and stay relaxed.
