Jasmine Tea

Jasmine is a kind of flower native between India and Arabia, and it was introduced into South China from the Western Region (the area to the west of Yumenguan, including Sinkiang and Central Asia) and the place around Persian Gulf in Han Dynasty. Chinese people are fond of Jasmine because of its elegant white and full of fragrance. Poets in ancient China highly praised Jasmine, " Their pure white faces like snow and the flower buds like perfect clean jab, blooming with tenderness alongside the lock window " "the Jasmine flower will be recommended as the first sweet in the world if I can supplement flower history". To add fragrant material into tea was popular In Song dynasty, the jasmine is obviously the ideal raw material. Combined with jasmine and green tea, Jasmine tea is well-known for its unique taste and efficacy, circulated until now and occupied absolute superiority in re- processed tea market.

At present, the jasmine-rich places of China are including Hengxian of Guangxi, Fuzhou of Fujian, Soochow of Jiangsu, Sichuan and Yunnan Province. As the largest production base of jasmine, Hengxian has the reputation of "The Hometown of Chinese Jasmine". There is a legend about the jasmine tea. In a winter of long time ago, Guqiu Chen, a tea merchant in Beijing was talking about tea with an expert master, and he suddenly remembered a pack of un-tasted tea given by a southern girl. He found it out immediately and brewed the tea for tasting. At the instant of open the cover, extraordinary fragrance came to their noses. Meanwhile, a beautiful girl with a bouquet of jasmine in hand appeared in curly upwards vapor stream, and fade away afterwards. The master told Guqiu Chen: "It’s a kind of precious tea called “gratitude fairy”, you must have done something good". That’s because he helped a poor lonely girl to bury her dead farther and provided a living place to her, three years ago when he bought tea in south China. The girl wanted to show her gratitude by making the tea before her death. Guoqiu Chen remembered the picture that the girl held jasmine in vapor stream, then got inspired to add jasmine flower to tea and developed the beloved jasmine tea we drink today.

As a kind of unique green tea, we make jasmine tea by combining flowers and green tea in certain ratio, the tea absorb the scent when the flowers release fragrance, then the fragrance sinks into the bone of the tea after rounds of scenting, the smell of the flower and the taste of tea fully integrated and bring out the best for each other finally.

Since jasmine is fond of high temperature, the more sunshine, the much fuller buds and more strongly aroma, that’s why superior good jasmine tea usually made by high quality green tea and hot summer jasmine. We can identify the quality of jasmine tea by observing the raw green tea, smelling the fragrance, looking over the tea liquor color and tasting. The high-quality jasmine tea should be rich and long fragrance, tea liquor color should be bright and yellow, gentle taste and no bitter, no pucker.  The standard for green tea can be referred to evaluate the quality of base tea.

The tips to make jasmine tea
Tools:  transparent glass or porcelain tureen
Water temperature:  around 90°C

Tea/ Water ratio: 1g: 50 ml
It is recommended to brew the tea 2-3 times
Storage: in a cool and dry place without abnormal smell
