As much as we’d like to think that everything is black and white and there are no shades of grey, the truth is life is often much more ambiguous than that.

In fact, it’s almost impossible to see all the different possibilities at play when we look at things from a logical point of view.

For many people, life is filled with so much pace that they often feel like they’re always running from one thing to the next. And while this isn’t necessarily bad, there are many benefits to slowing down or pausing to think about a better or wiser way forward.

Life can be hectic, and for the most part, it’s a good thing. But there are times when we need to slow things down and find ways to be more efficient, productive and logical. That means being rational and deliberate about your actions and choices about your future self.

There are two main ways of thinking: linear and circular. Linear thinking follows a series of steps from A to Z, beginning to end. Circular thinking involves starting with an end state and then working backwards to figure out how you got there.

Linear thinkers focus on the results they achieve in their day-to-day lives, while circular thinkers focus on their values and goals. Determine which way of thinking works best for you and use it consistently throughout your life.

You could also use both depending on the specific problem or circumstance. “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change,” Wayne Dyer said.

In short, keeping an open mind can help you make informed choices, make better decisions as you go about your life, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling life.
