必须达成目标-Reach the Goals

今天的句子来自山姆.沃尔顿的自传。山姆.沃尔顿是连锁超市沃尔玛的创始人。他的一生十分精彩。布什总统在给他的嘉奖状中写道：山姆.沃尔顿，地道的美国人，具体展现了创业精神，是美国梦的缩影。

这是他的自传中的总结性的话。

My life has been a trade-off.

我的人生就是一场交易。

If I wanted to reach the goals I set for myself, I had to get at it and stay at it everyday.
如果我想要达成自己的目标，就必须每天为之奋斗，坚持不懈。
I had to think about it all the time.
必须时刻把它放在心上。
I get up everyday with my minds set on imporving something.
我每天一起床，脑子里就想着要去改进些什么。
I was driven by a desire to always be on the top of the heap.
我一直被一种追求卓越的渴望驱动着。

背诵前先来看看里边的词语。
trade-off：交易。
stay at it ：坚持不懈。这算是个成语。stay at 意为逗留，在自己的目标处逗留，就是坚持不懈。
to always be:永远。这个词很简单，但我发现，很多人都会背成to be always，不算错，to be always 和to always be都是永远的意思。
heap :n 堆，累积。v堆积，装满

拆解下这几句。
核聚老师说，这几句话说是山姆.沃尔顿一生经验的总结。
讲得非常简单，人生就是一场交易。
为了达成目标，是要付出代价的。
代价就是I had to get at it and stay at it everyday.句中用had to强调是必须的，没有捷径可走。另一个词everyday，强调时刻要将目标放在心上。
用get at it 表示目标是要自己去追求的，不只是想想而已。 stay at it表示这种坚持是要持续的。有点像《坚毅》里讲的:

Grit is living life like it‘s a martathon, not a sprint.

坚毅是将生活当成一场马拉松，而不是短跑。

不仅如此，他还要get up everyday with his minds set on improving something.每天都要想办法改进些什么。妥妥的growth mindset（成长型思维）。
最后一句回答了为什么他要这样做:a desire to always be on the top of the heap.就是想着出人头地，最后他也做到了。
