Symptoms

After performing an import from 9i to 11g, encountered the following issue:

SQL> DROP DATABASE LINK SUPPORT.PRODREP ;
drop DATABASE LINK SUPPORT.PRODREP
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-02024: database link not found

Cause

Incorrect SQL syntax for dropping a public database link

In this case, the link was owned by user 'PUBLIC' not the user 'SUPPORT'

SQL> SELECT * FROM all_db_links;

OWNER   DB_LINK    USERNAME   
-----------  -------------    -----------------
PUBLIC   PRODREP  SUPPORT     

Solution

Correct the syntax to include the word 'public'
DROP PUBLIC DATABASE LINK <name of link>
