今早巷子里有具狗尸体 车子碾得它肚皮开花
Dog carcass in alley this morning. Tire tread on burst stomach.
这座城市害怕我
This city's afraid of me.
我见识过它的真面目 这些街道就像无尽的臭水沟...
I've seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters...
充满鲜血的臭水沟
...and the gutters are full of blood.
当这些臭水沟的血完全结痂之后...
And when the drains finally scab over...
所有的寄生虫都会窒息而死
...all the vermin will drown.
它们的色情和谋杀所沉积的污秽...
The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder...
会淹没它们的腰部...
...will foam up around their waists...
这时所有的婊子和政客们就会仰起头哭喊："救救我们! "
...and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout, "Save us."
而我轻声说："不"
And I'll whisper, "No."
现在全世界都已处在悬崖边...
Now the whole world stands on the brink...
人们向下直视着血腥的地狱
...staring down into bloody hell.
那些自由主义者 学者...
All those liberals and intellectuals...
还有圆滑的演讲家们...
...and smooth talkers...
全都在一瞬间变得哑口无言
...and all of a sudden, nobody can think of anything to say.
在我脚下 这座威严的城市...
Beneath me, this awful city.
发出了好像在屠宰场里 任人宰割的弱智儿童的惨叫
It screams like an abattoir full of retarded children...
夜晚则充满着道德沦丧的乌烟瘴气
...and the night reeks of fornication and bad consciences.

这毫无成果的夜晚 拜访的第一个人...
First visit of evening fruitless.
让我有些失望
Feel slightly depressed.
战争很快就会爆发了
Soon there will be war.
上百万的人会疾病和痛苦中死去
Millions will perish in sickness and misery.
为什么一个人的死还比这百万人重要?
Why does one death matter against so many?
因为当中有好人有坏人 而坏人必须被惩罚
Because there is good and evil, and evil must be punished.
即使面对世界末日...
Even in the face of armageddon...
在这点上我也不会妥协
...I will not compromise in this.
但是有那么多人的值得被报偿...
But there are so many deserving of retribution...
...而时间却那么少

与夜枭会面之后 嘴里残留着不好的味道
Meeting with Dreiberg left bad taste in mouth.
那个在自己地下室啜泣的软弱失败者
A flabby failure who sits whimpering in his basement.
为什么我们当中只剩下那么少人...
Why are so few of us left active...
能身体 心智都健康地活跃着

...dying in a California rest resort.

Dollar Bill got his cape stuck in a revolving door...

Mothman's in an asylum in Maine.

可能全是谎话
Could all be lies.
一个在他蹲大牢的几年里想出来的复仇大计
A revenge scheme planned during his years behind bars.
如果这是真的...
But if it's true...
有什么东西能使笑匠害怕?
...what could have possibly scared the Comedian...
甚至让他在死神面前哭鼻子?
...enough to cry in front of Moloch?
他到底看到了什么?
What was it he saw?

And that list he mentioned.

Born 1918.
在雨中被埋葬
Buried in the rain.

Murdered.

充满暴力的人生为暴力终结
Violent lives ending violently.

Blake understood. Humans are savage in nature.

于是决定去模仿它 模仿这个笑话
Chose to be a parody of it. A joke.
我听过一个笑话
I heard joke once.
说一个男人去看医生 说他很沮丧
Man goes to doctor, says he's depressed.
人生看起来很无情和残酷
Life seems harsh and cruel.
说他在这个充满威胁的世界上觉得很孤独
Says he feels all alone in threatening world.
医生说疗法很简单
Doctor says treatment is simple.
"伟大的小丑帕格里亚齐来了 去看他的表演吧
"The great clown Pagliacci is in town. Go see him.
那样能让你振作起来的"
That should pick you up. "
那男人突然大哭
Man bursts into tears.
"但是医生"他说 "我就是帕格里亚齐"
"But doctor," he says. "I am Pagliacci."
不错的笑话
Good joke.
听的人都笑了
Everybody laugh.

在第43街和第3街交叉口 看见德雷伯格和朱庇特 吃完晚餐出来
On 43rd and 7th, saw Dreiberg and Jupiter leaving diner.
我不戴面具他们就不认识我
They didn't know me without my mask.
难道是红杏出墙?
An affair?
难道她想伤曼哈顿博士的心来报复他的离去? 让德雷伯格有机可乘?
Did she break Manhattan's heart to engineer his exile to make room for Dreiberg?
曼哈顿有没有一颗心来为她碎呢?
Does Manhattan even have a heart to break?
小巷阴冷而又荒凉
The alley was cold, deserted.
我的宝贝们静静地等着我
My things were where I left them, waiting for me.
我的大衣 鞋子 干净的手套
My coat, my shoes, my spotless gloves.
还有我的面具
My face.
穿上他们 我就卸下了伪装
Putting them on, I abandoned my disguise...

First bubbling note of city's evening chorus.
是强奸?
Attempted rape.
抢劫?
Mugging.
或都是?
Both.
那人转过身来
The man turned...
从他的眼神里我得到了满足
...and there was something rewarding in his eyes.

Sometimes the night is generous to me.

Veidt's assassin was a local lowlife named Roy Chess.

曾经开玩笑说他快到能抓住子弹
Used to joke he was fast enough to catch a bullet.
他自己就能够在雪地里干掉我们
He could kill us both alone in the snow.
那就是我们要去的地方：南极
That's where we're going now：Antarctica.
不管我今后是生是死
Whether I'm alive or dead upon this reading...
我希望这个世界能够坚持到 你们看到这本日记的时候
...I hope the world survives long enough for this journal to reach you.
