take up开始(学习或从事等)；继续

conversation [ˌkɒnvəˈseɪʃn] n. 交谈，会话

lonely [ˈləʊnli] adj. 寂寞的；(人) 孤独的

作形容词时，只作表语，不能作定语，强调“（身体上的）孤单一人”

作形容词时，强调主观上孤单寂寞的感情，可修饰表人的名词，在句中可作表语或定语，也可修饰表物的名词

gaze at盯住；凝视

thick [θɪk] adj. 厚的；浓密的（比较级：thicker 最高级：thickest）

·“比较级+ than”结构，表示两者相比

·than后可以加名词/代词、动名词、从句、状语（包括副词、介词短语等）、动词、形容词等。

·常用句型：A is /are +形容词比较级 + than B.

Blood is thicker than water.血浓于水。

powerful [ˈpaʊəfl] adj. 强大的；强有力的

比较级：more powerful

最高级：most powerful
