摘自《呼啸山庄》(《Wuthering Heights》)

You'll pass the church yard, Mr Lockwood, on your way back to the Grange, and you'll see the three gravestones close to the moor. Catherine's, the middle one, is old now, and half buried in plants which have grown over it. On one side is Edgar Linton's, and on the other is Heathcliff's new one. If you stay there a moment, and watch the insects flying in the warm summer air, and listen to the soft wind breathing through the grass, you'll understand how quietly they rest, the sleepers in that quiet earth.

摘自 《双城记》(A tale of two cities)

It was the best of times, it was the worst of Times;
It was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness;
It was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity;
It was the season of light, it was the season of darkness;
It was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair;
We have everything before us, we have nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way.
