结庐在人境，而无车马喧。

问君何能尔？心远地自偏。

采菊东篱下，悠然见南山。

山气日夕佳，飞鸟相与还。

此中有真意，欲辩已忘言。

I built my hut in a zone of human habitation,

Yet near me there sounds no noise of horse or coach

Would you know how that is possible?

A heart that is distant creates a wilderness round it.

I pluck chrysanthemums under the eastern hedge,

Then gaze long at the distant summer hills.

The mountain air is fresh at the dusk of day;

The flying birds two by two return.

In these things there lies a deep meaning;

Yet when we would express it, words suddenly fail us.

冯友兰（1895-1990），字芝生，河南唐河人，哲学家、哲学史家。曾就学于北京大学、哥伦比亚大学，获哥伦比亚大学哲学博士学位。1928年起，任清华大学哲学系教授兼哲学系主任、文学院院长、校务会议主席。抗战期间任西南联大哲学系主任兼文学院院长。1952年起，任北京大学哲学系教授，为中国科学院哲学社会科学学部委员。主要著作有《中国哲学史》《新理学》《新事论》《新世训》《新原人》《新原道》《新知言》等。论著编为《三松堂全集》。
