Linux Systems Engineer

IT Infrastructure is looking for senior level Linux Systems Engineer. Our customers are Facebook’s employees, and we support the systems they rely on to keep the business growing and information safe. We use a combination of open source and off-the-shelf technologies, plus many of the tools developed to run facebook.com. You will be responsible for IT’s growing Linux environment by solving configuration management, authentication, and scaling problems. This is a combination infrastructure systems engineer with software development skills to enable better scaling through good tooling.
Responsibilities
Build and develop the tools needed to scale the corporate infrastructure services
Combine open-source, commercial technologies, and tools built for facebook.com to creatively solve problems no one else has
Find ways to leverage the scale and capability of the production facebook.com infrastructure to solve problems for the business
Be the final escalation point for issues related to IT Linux systems.
Produce systems that are scalable, automated, and well-documented, and train others to take on operations
Requirements
BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline or equivalent experience
Extremely sound knowledge of UNIX and TCP/IP network fundamentals
Ability to code really well in at least one language (even if it is not one that Facebook uses)
Ability to rapidly learn new development languages (PHP, Python, C++, and Java are all in heavy use)
Ability to pick up new software, frameworks and APIs quickly
Sharp and tenacious troubleshooting skills: you can fix anything
Ruthlessly bent on automation, efficient, and self-service
Experience with common monitoring and configuration management tools such as nagios and chef
Configuration and maintenance of common applications such as Apache, Oracle, Squid, MySQL, NFS, DHCP, SSH, DNS, and SNMP
Virtualization and block storage experience a plus
Good verbal and written communications skills
