Note: This has not been publicly announced, but will be in a press release next week. (20130703的下周)Please, let's keep it to ourselves, customers and partners, until then!
What a short, strange trip it's been. It's a pleasure to tell you, in advance, that Cloudera has acquired Myrrix Ltd and will announce it publicly next week. Cloudera is well-known for its distribution of Apache Hadoop, and more recently for its big-data query and search tools like Impala. Continuing this trend, Cloudera is acquiring the technology behind the Myrrix's large-scale recommender product, to form part of a future product platform.
Later, we will be able to announce details, including a possible upgrade path. I will remain fully a part of it, as Director of Data Science. The future roadmap for the product begun as Myrrix just got much bigger and with much more resource behind it, and this is good news for everybody.
However, the Myrrix product as it exists today will be end-of-lifed this year, 2013.
What does this mean for customers and users?
All current releases, documentation and open source code, will remain available indefinitely (not just through 2013)
The distributed Computation Layer and Serving Layer are freely available as of the 1.0.0 release, with no license file required
These two are provided in binary form now under the Apache License 2.0, also indefinitely
So, you can continue to use existing releases as long as desired, and now, they can be used freely, and distributed with virtually no restriction. Support is unchanged in the short term:
Until the end of 2013, the same level of technical support will still be available
Bug fix and maintenance releases will continue, as needed, until then as well
The Serving Layer and Computation Layer will remain available on Amazon DevPay as well until at least the end of 2013
However, product roadmap and support changes after 2013:
After 2013, support will no longer be available, and there will be no further planned updates to the Myrrix products
I will shortly contact customers individually who have more specific agreements in place with Myrrix Ltd, with some additional information specific to those relationships.
Thank you to everyone I've had the pleasure of working with to date. This is just the start of working together on something much bigger. Please contact me directly with questions or concerns.
