How to view binary performance log (.blg) file?

There are two ways for you to extract and view the Windows XP binary performance log (.blg).

This file is usually created  by the Windows System Monitor (perfmon.exe) as the counter logs.

 

Method 1:

Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools.

Open Performance.

On the toolbar, click on the fourth icon from the right (the hard disk icon).

In the "Source" tab, select Log files: as the Data source.

Add the file by clicking the Add... button.

Then click OK button to view it.

 

Method 2:

This method will convert the file to a CSV and open using the Microsoft Excel.

On the Windows XP-based computer, start a command prompt by clicking Start, pointing to Run, typing cmd, and then clicking OK. 

Change the directory to the folder that contains the .blg file.

At the command prompt, type "relog logfile.blg -f CSV -o newfile.csv",
where logfile.blg is the Windows XP .blg file, and newfile.csv is the name of the file that will be created in the new format.
