Symptoms

After successful 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure clusterware (CRS) installation, root.sh failed to initialize OCR with following error:

Cause

For case 1, cause is incorrect NFS mount option specified for OCR and Voting disk

For case 2, cause is instead of a flat file, specified OCR location is a directory:

  ls -ld /share/storage/ocr
  drwxr-xr-x 2 oracle oinstall 4096 Jan 04 13:15 /share/storage/ocr

For case 3, cause is unsupported storage type specified for OCR

  ls -l /share/storage/ocr
  -rw-r----- 1 root oinstall 0 Fan 04 15:15 /share/storage/ocr

  mount | grep share
  /u01/share on /share type none (rw,bind)

  # from above you can see /share file system is not supported type for OCR

 

Solution

For case 1, remount NFS for OCR and Voting Disk with proper mount options in note 359515.1

For case 2, remove the directory and create a empty file with same name instead:

  rm -rf /share/storage/ocr
  touch /share/storage/ocr
  chown oracle:oinstall /share/storage/ocr

For case 3, make sure supported storage type is used for OCR.

Once above is done, you can clean up and re-run root.sh with note 942166.1
