Start as a fresh.....

I interned in Google Inc. twice.

First internship was in Privacy & Infrastructure team, mentored by Christopher (Belgian Cryptographer )  and Daniel (Swiss Cryptographer). My project mainly focused on verifying efficient encryption/decryption algorithms which would replace those currently used by Google. Honestly, this was the most fantastic internship I have ever done. Christopher and Daniel gave me a lot of help and patience during my stay. Especially Daniel Bleichenbacher, he gave me a lot of support and helped me a lot in understanding and implementing attacks. Other team members like Vlad, Pern, Slawk... can't name them all, gave me a lot of support. I benefited from this internship quite a lot.

Second internship was in Hangouts Team, mentored by Claes and Erik. My project mainly focused on implementing new features for Hangouts. It was a very easy project with very simple idea. The most difficult part is that there is no clear design (even mentors have no clear idea of what to do) and the Hangouts team actually is quite a mess. My direct mentor Claes is the director for SDET team (changed the name into "infrastructure" later), however, I was working for another team. Whenever I asked for help from the other guy, he usually told me "I am not your mentor...". This is actually very awkward for interns. No matter what the situation is, it is really bad to get interns into politically issues. Above than that, I always received a lot of wrong commands. For example, he asked me to do A, however, after doing half A, I found that I actually need to do B C D E F before even touching A.... As a fresh, it is hard for me to evaluate the sequence and the workload. This internship was not as good as I thought it should be. There are quite a lot of stories happened during my stay. There were some visitors from another office travelling to the one I stayed. I used to talk Chinese once figured out we both are. A Chinese(one of the visitors) told me that he has been working in Google for more than 5 years, he had never known anyone behave like him(one of my mentor). Whenever he want to clarify something about the project, that guy always blurred the answer.... All in all, second internship totally flipped my thought on Google.

Two internships tell that Google is good but not everything is!

Graduating now, time to move on. No matter good or not, I am still appreciate the experience I have had.
