关于IBM federation server的一些疑惑早就知道IBM有自己的EII的解决方案 ，google一下ibm information integration，内容很多。有DB2 data integrator，有websphere information integrator，现在叫federation server了。从一些宣传资料上知道新的IBM Information Server中含有此组件（federation server），一直想下载一个下来玩玩。可是从IBM网站上一直没找到地方去下载。后来知道IBM Federation Server也可以单独运行。又去找Federation Server下载还是没找到。后来想也许DB2本身就有这个功能，只是当去连接不同数据源时才成为federation server吧。果然在control center中发现了配置wrapper的地方。但是一些wrapper都没法找到相应的库文件。又搜了一番，才发现原来要安装db2 fix pack。真是费神啊！参见这个网页。The IBM Federation Server can run on the Information Server or standalone - either way it can benefit from the latest DB2 fix packs with some Federation and Wrapper fixes.I am just going to focus on DB2 for Windows, Linux and Unix as it's the most common platform for Federation. Federation Server has had three names - it was formerly known as DB2 Data Integrator, then WebSphere Information Integrator and when it became a full time member of the IBM Information Server it was imaginatively named Federation Server. It still has some DB2 bones - it runs as a set of relational and non-relation wrappers for DB2 that turn external data sources into virtual DB2 tables. This means it can benefit fromenhancements in DB2 fix packs that are not in the Information Server fix packs.The DB2 fix packs were not part of the Information Server Fix Pack, it only hadfixes for:IBM WebSphere DataStage IBM WebSphere QualityStage IBM WebSphere Information Analyzer IBM WebSphere Information Services Director If you run DB2 Control Center and choose the Help About button it should show your current version.If you don't see 9.1.400.359 then you don't have the latest fix packs. DB2 fix packs are cumulative and DB2 version 9.1 is up to Fix Pack 4 that bundles five Fix Packs into one. You and I might ask why Fix Pack 4 is the 5th Fix Pack but to an IBM engineer it makes perfect sense.I just installed the Federation Server using the GA version and my version number is v9.1.0.356.Federation Server Fix PackYou need to get the Enterprise Server fix pack before you can install the wrapper fix packs. This Server fix pack will have the client fix packs in it. So here are the steps for getting the install running:Download the Enterprise Server Edition fix pack, the Non-relational Wrappers and the Relational Wrappers. Unzip the Enterprise Server Install (19.2MB) and Relational Wrapper Install (68MB) and non-relational Wrapper (24.1MB)to the same parent directory. Stop DB2. Run the Enterprise Server Install setup.exe. Follow the prompts. Repeat for Relational and non-relation installs.
