Dorm Life of American Colleage Students

For many American colleage students, the chance to live in a dorm is very exciting. This is often the first time students will be away form thier parents for a lengthy period of time and students are able to experience a little more freedom than they would at home. Most colleges offer dorming options and some offer apartment style living that includes a sitchen, bath and laundry facilities.

However, the chance to dorm is not always as easy as 1,2,3. Some large universities do not have enough dorm spaces available for thier students, so students often resort to standing in a long line in hopes of reserving a room. In addition to reserving a room, each individual needs to decide whether they would want to room with a friend. In most cases, students will mutually decide on whom they want to room with and the universities usually grant thier requests. It is often the case where students attend a university where they are new and have no friends from home attending the same institution. Therefore, these students can be placed randomly with other single students.

There are other options for American college students who choose to live near the college students and these apartments tend to be cheaper than university housing. In addition, students residing in non-university dormitories or housing are not forced to follow stict rules set by universities. These rules can be troublesome for students who like to break them.

There are many advantages, however, to living in university housing. Even though the cost may be more expensive, the commute to classes is easier and one may not always have to cook their own foods. Meal plans are common for students in university dorms and are convenient for those who don't like to cook or for those who do not know how to cook. Living on campus means that you are closer to many campus facilities includingthe library, gym, classromms, etc. It tends to be safer in university dorms as well.
