坚持英语学习打卡 之 翻译篇（16）

今日翻译打卡第16天，完成Unit 10补充练习里的六个翻译句子，虽然句子结构不难，但注意翻译语言的地道性。

1.她在武汉的商场一看见那条裙子就喜欢上了。

一般译法：She liked the dress the moment she saw it in a market in Wuhan.

优质译法：She took to the fancy dress the first moment she saw it at the shopping mall in Wuhan.

技巧点拨：注意“喜欢上”用take to更地道，在《养花》一文的翻译中出现过，take to 表示“喜欢，开始从事，习惯于”。此处的“商场”理解为“购物广场”，故译为shopping mall更合适。

补充：注意"一...就..."的英文表达，可以用the moment / as soon as / no sooner... than / hardly ... when.

2.他们喜欢每年春天樱花盛开时到磨山风景区去玩。

一般译法：They like to visit the Moshan Scenery District when the cherry blossoms are blooming.

优质译法：They have taken to visiting Moshan Scenic Spot every spring when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom.

技巧点拨：注意take to doing sth.表示“喜欢上做某事”，be in full bloom表示花儿“盛放”。

3.我不知道他是什么时候迷上麻将的。在我看来，打麻将纯粹是浪费时间。

一般译法：I don’t know when he took to playing Majiang, which is totally a waste of time in my opinion.

优质译法：I’m wondering when he has taken to playing Mahjong, which, I think, is a sheer waste of time.

4.喜欢不懂装懂的人迟早会闹笑话的。

一般译法：Those who don’t know but pretend to know something will end up with making jokes.

优质译法：Those who take to pretending to know what they actually don’t know would sooner of later make a fool of themselves.

技巧点拨：注意“闹笑话”的译法make a fool of oneself.

5.我认为世间最可贵的就是“今”，最易丧失的也是“今”。因为它最容易丧失，所以更觉得它宝贵。

一般译法：I think the most precious thing in the world is “today” which is also the easiest to lose. Because it is easy to lose, people will find it more precious.

优质译法：Of all things in the world, I think, the present is the most precious, and also the most apt to slip through our fingers. We, therefore, treasure it all the more because of its transience.

技巧点拨：注意“容易丧失”可以用两个表达be apt to slip through one’s fingers 或者transience，其中slip through 表示“悄悄溜过”，十分形象，transience 是名词，表示“短暂，无常”，对应的形容词是transient.

6.It is a glorious thing to be indifferent to suffering, but only to one’s own suffering.

优质译法：漠视苦难，很荣耀，但只有漠视自己的苦难时才是如此。

技巧点拨：注意翻译语言的简洁准确，可以反过来想想自己要翻译“漠视苦难”成为英文，会使用怎样的表达？
