英语随身学之食物俚语

2016年已经过了四分之三，今天是九月的第一天，也是大部分学校开学的日子。今年最后四分之一的时光，我们也要好好地利用起来。为了让大家更方便，并且每天都可以更新自己的英语知识，我推出了这个“英语随身学”系列，今天我们分享的是和食物有关的俚语，一起来看看吧^.^

1.苹果

Apple of one’s eye.

apple

英释：

A person who is adored by someone.

（某人被他人崇拜／喜爱）

例句：

Jessica is the apple of her father’s eye.

（杰西卡很招她爸爸喜爱。）

注意：这里的eye是单数哦。

2.面包和黄油

Bread and butter.

bread and butter

英释：

necessities, the main thing.

（所需之物、重点）

例句：

Just explain the bread and butter of your report. You don’t have to go into details.

（解释一下你报告中的终点即可，无需深入细节。）

3.豆子
Full of beans.

bean

英释：

Have a lot of energy.（充满活力）

例句：

The kids were full of beans after the circus.

（孩子们看完马戏表演之后都神采奕奕，充满活力。）

注意：此处beans为复数。

4.黄瓜

Cool as a cucumber.

cucumber

英释：

Very relaxed.（很放松）

例句：

Joan felt nervous, but she acted as cool as a cucumber.

（乔安心里紧张，但她表现得很放松。）

注意：搭配用法为be cool as a cucumber/ do (sth.) as cool as a cucumber.

5.蛋糕

A piece of cake

cake

英释：

Very easy.（很简单）

例句：

The exam was a piece of cake.

（这场考试很简单。）

6.培根

Bring home the bacon

bacon

英释：

earn the income.

（获得收入，赚钱）

例句：

My wife has had to bring home the bacon since I broke my leg.

（我腿摔伤后，我妻子就开始赚钱养家。）

7.坚果

A hard nut to crack.

nut

英释：

Difficult to understand.

（难以理解、难对付）

例句：

They say Barney is a hard nut to crack.

（他们说巴尼是个难以理解／对付的人。）

8.鸡蛋

A bad egg.

egg

英释：

A person who is often in trouble.

（总是麻烦缠身的人。）

例句：

I don’t want my brother hanging around withthe bad eggs on the street.

（我不想让我弟弟总是和街上那些惹麻烦的人混在一起。）

注意：egg可变为复数形式；可以利用中文“坏蛋”的含义帮助记忆。
