固定思维的家长给孩子传达的信息:我的性格和能力都是天生的,我无法改变。如果我被批评了,那我就是差劲的。

成长型思维的家长给孩子传达的信息:我是一个一直在成长的人,我也喜欢进步成长的过程。

比如表扬孩子数学题做对了,我们不应该说:“你真聪明”因为这是在夸他的先天的智商。而应该说:“我知道你是通过努力得到的这个结果,你真棒!”这样的夸奖就是在夸奖孩子面对困难努力解决的过程。

If parents who want to give their children a gift, the best thing they can do is to teach their children to love challenges, be intrigued by mistakes, enjoy effort, and keep on learning.

书中还有一个例子,一个小女孩在体操比赛中没有获得名次,他的父亲是这样说的:首先给孩子安慰,感同深受孩子现在的沮丧情绪。再告诉孩子人家获奖是因为他们的努力,你要是想获奖,就要加倍练习,而且要多练薄弱环节。

They were so many girls who've been in gymnastics longer than you and who've worked al lot harder than you. If this is something you really want, then it's something you really have to work for.
