Athletic events at universities attract scores of fans and benefit the whole community. Many people also enjoy non-competitive activities like hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping or hunting. To communicate with American sports nuts, it helps if you can talk sports.

Sports in America represent the international heritage of the people who play. Many sports were imported from other countries. European immigrants brought tennis, golf, bowling and boxing to America. Football and baseball came from other Old World games. Only basketball has a truly American origin. Even today some formerly "foreign" sports like soccer are gaining American fans. In 1994 the U. S. hosted the World Cup for the first time ever.

To use the resources rationally and protect the environment effectively are the inevitable requirements for sustainable development. Development at the expense of squandering resources and undermining the environment cannot last long. Natural resources are not inexhaustible, yet the demand of human development is ever growing. If the relationship between the two is not addressed properly, it will inevitably lead to a deterioration of the ecosystem and pose serious threat to the survival and development of mankind. A recycling economy, which is based on the most efficient use of the resources and the most effective protection of the environment, is the only way to achieve sustainable development.

Sustainable progress inevitably calls for rational expenditure of resources and protection of the environment. Extravagance in the use of resources and indifference to the fate of the environment will make continued development impossible. Natural resources exist on this planet in infinite quantities, while man's demand for social development is ever-increasing. Improper/ Inappropriate handling of the relationship between the two will necessarily result in worsening of the ecosystem, and human survival and development will be endangered/ jeopardized. Only by embracing a recycling economy where resources are most effectively utilized and the environment is highly valued can we sustain progress.
