Lesson 31 Success story 成功者的故事

Yesterday afternoon Frank Hawkins was telling me about his experiences as a young man. Frank is now the head of a very large business company, but as a boy he used to work in a small shop. It was his job to repair bicycles and at that time he used to work fourteen hours a day. He saved money for years and in 1938 he bought a small work-shop of his own. During the war Frank used to make spare parts for aeroplanes. At that time he had two helpers. By the end of the war, the small work-shop had become a large factory which employed seven hundred and twenty-eight people. Frank smiled when he remembered his hard early years and the long road to success. He was still smiling when the door opened and his wife came in. She wanted him to repair their son's bicycle!

My husband is the head of a large international business company. I met him in 1957 as he was twenty and I was sixteen. At that time, he worked in a small shop and often worked fourteen hours a day. I married him at 1959 when I was eighteen. A year later, he had bought his own workshop and made spare parts of aeroplane during the war. In a few years, the number of his employers had increased from two to seven hundred and twenty-eight and the workshop had become a large factory. Now we are old and have retired. And he always shares 'the youths'[=> the young] about his experiences as he was young. He tell his hard early years and the long road to success just as a story. And he is still a skillful worker as he is repairing our grandson's bicycle.

My father and mother are busy 'on'[=> with] work and I lived 'at'[=> in] my grandparent's home. It was my grandfather's job to repair bicycles as he was young. So I feel very lucky when my bicycle has something wrong. My grandfather is a soft and patient and he always gives me some help 'in'[=> with] my homework. He often tells me his stories as he was young. He used to be merely a common worker in a small shop. Then he worked hard and saved money for years and bought his own workshop. The workshop had developed to be a large factory with seven hundred and twenty-eight employers when my dad was born. I started studying hard since I knew my grandfather's hard early years and the long road to success. I wish to have my own company in the future.
