Day12--The Kite Runner (CH22-CH23)

Part 1 Vocabulary

1. Sohrab's eyes flicked to me.

flick: to look very quickly at someone or something

flick a glance look at somebody something

Eg: Leith flicked a glance at her watch.

2. Asset had backed down.

back down:  to give up;  to admit that you are wrong or that you have lost an argument

Eg: Both sides have refused to back down.

3. Asset let go of my throat, and lunged at Sohnab.

lunge: to make a sudden strong movement towards someone or something, especially to attack themlunge at forward towards out etc

Eg: The goats lunged at each other with their horns.

4. He has outgrown them.

outgrow: to  grow too big for something同义 grow out of

Eg: They outgrow their clothes so quickly.

Part 2 Summary

  Two armed guards frisked Amir head to toe and took him to a room.  Waiting in the room alone, Amir thought a lot.  He had preoccupied himself with anything to make him calm.  Three Talibas came in and the tall Talib in white told Amir that how they massacred the Hazara. Sohrab was taken into the room, with bells strapped around his anklets. He was controlled by the Pashtu music and danced to it when the guards played the music. The Talib in white recognized Amir even in his fake beard. Stunned and shocked, Amir knew that the Talib in white was Assef. Assef claimed that their going door-to-door massacre was ethnic cleansing.  Amir said he was willing to pay Assef  for taking Sohrab back. Assef refused, saying money was not he wanted.  And he promised that if Amir could win him, he could leave away with Sohrab.  Beaten badly by Assef, Amir seemed not to win. But Sohrab helped Amir and hit Assef in his left eye with his slingshot. Amir and Sohrab run out of the room.

Waking up in a hospital, Amir was rescued from his serous injury. Farid have Amir a letter from RK. In his letter, RK expressed the reason why Baba did charities was that he was redeeming himself. RK truly hoped Amir cloud forgive Baba and himself. Both of them found a way to create good out of their sins.  Farid suggested that Amir should leave as soon as possible because the talibs were looking for him. Amir finally left for Islamabad, taking Sohrab with him.

Part 3 随感

这两章看起来很过瘾，和儿时相比，如今Amir 的很勇敢，面对依旧残暴的Assef，不退缩，用自己的方式为自己"赎罪"。RK叔叔的信，字字真诚。只有他能理解爸爸心理的悔恨，他知道Amir和父亲都在努力弥补自己的"罪行".其实，最重要的是要自己原谅自己，才是真正走出后悔，只有善行才是真正的救赎吧。
