assert

assertive:

someone who is assertive behaves confidently and is not frightened to say what they want or believe: if you realy want the promotion, you'll have to be more assertive.

disprove

prove; bear; proving and disproving;

to prove that sth. is not true: The allegations have been disproved.

empirical

While it may seem obvious today that a good scientist must rely on empirical evidence, this was not always apparent.
