The  clod and the pebble

土块和卵石的爱

"Love seekeh not itself to please,

“爱不追求自身的欢愉，

Nor for itself hath any care.

甚至完全不在乎自己。

But for another gives its ease,

爱但求让对方自在，

And builds a heaven in hell’s despair."

建一座天堂在对方绝望的地狱。”

So sung a little clod of clay,

一枚小土块如此歌唱，

Trodden with the cattle's feet.

它虽然被畜生的脚踩伤。

But a pebble of the brook,

一块卵石安卧在溪水中，

Warbled out these metres meet.

却发出这样的叮当。

"Love seekeh only self to please,

“爱只求自己的欢畅，

To bind another to its delight.

为自己的快乐捆绑对方。

Joys in another's loss of ease,

爱乐于让对方失去自在，

And builds a hell in heaven's despite."

建一座地狱在对方的天堂。”

每年的七夕，每年的情人节，不应该只是同情人相聚、给情人送礼物的日子，我们也可以反思一下自己的“爱情”哲学：在爱情中我们是想作一枚“土块”，还是一颗“卵石”。

这事不搞明白，再贵重的礼物都是“然并卵”；再甜蜜的相聚，也最终会分手！
