Growth with the failure

At the end of 2013, I quit from the previous company because of the internal adjustment and some changes. But there was no idea for me to continue to find a job or have a rest for several days. Z found me and told me a idea about his plan of a project. That was a project on travel industry and forcing on picking up ticket automatically offline. Travelers have limited time to go out with family and it is common sense that have a long waiting time in a queue before buying tickets and picking up tickets. This is absolutely “hurt point” for travelers. And there was no competitors in auto-picking-up tickets area. I decided to do it with Z and his friend. Then as the normal system, analysed the market, looked for hardware factories, searched suitable office and selected greattech-manstep by step. Right, I forgot to say in the core team there was no tech-man. Z was a role asoperating-man and CEO, Z’s friend (F) wasmarking-man, me? apm. Of course, no one had sufficientfundin three of us, so it spent several months for Z and F to seek VC in early period. During this time, I completed the draft of product, aiOS appversion. Good news was such many VCs were interested in this idea, and they hoped tokeep in touchwith us and wished us to advance it.

Mind always be faster than action. Market would never give fresh bird one more chance. It costed few time ( around 10-20 days ) to register a firm and use this tile to rent a flat with low price in a South China. Used these resources to hire three tech-men with half of  industry salary level of Beijing, pretty cheap, definitely. The next three months, I forced on the product quality and project schedule management in the firm. During these months, we only faces one large change, the direction of product.TongCheng and Lvmama started to do the same thing like us. As the resources were limited for us, even if we had contacts with some attractions, it was difficult to operate smoothly at this time. Therefore, after discussion, we decided to transfer the role as contents supplier in next version. However, it is not a good news to apply VC investment. At this point, we had already lost the original target at the beginning.

Finally, the iOS version uploaded in Apple Store. Our first work was done. However, there was no happiness around us. Lack of money, failure of VC investment recruitment, unclear product target, which had to face to deal with currently, pushed us. After a long time talking, we made a decision that closing the company, and having more preparation, then doing a big thing in the future.

Recently I dropped into a website ( Knewone ) talking about the new strange technique staffs, the designer Mr. Li shared his experience of doing this website, told coders how to  create start-up with lean mind. Very impressive!

Maybe the readers have found the red words in the article. Those are the key words which influence this project in my mind.

analysis of failure elements:

tech-man/operating/marketing/pm:the core role distribution. Minders are negative in the team. Start-up needs actors. If you are not, it is good for team to look for a action friend in. And good product  not only needs impressive soul, also spreading it to make sure increasing individuals can see it. One more man, the man who knew the industry of the product. It requires not only the internet professor, also the medicine specialist or top ability traveler or industry  practitioner.

fund:limited fund do limited thing, from small to big. It also be a successful businessman from carport. When there is no much fund, we can start from a “carport” with weekend or leisure time to complete the idea. After it is visible to gain money from the product, we can devote more. Fund is very vital for start-up men, every fen should has its destination.

iOS app:Thanks, Mr. Li. We should use short time to verify our idea, using every resource that we can find, open source, free framework. Anything can save time and cost if they are open, free or ready-made. Maybe when we finished the development after few months, we found it is a wrong idea and the market did not like it. However, time is out.

change and news:believe it, time is money. And remember the original mind. Do not flow with the market or your competitor and lose your own mind.

Does not matter. It is just a failure. Everyone will grow with the failure.
