1984 Book 1 Chapter 5-6

由于今天时间充裕，这两章我读得相对细致，可读下来简直令我脊背发凉！

随着越读越多，我们也越来越了解Winston的日常心态和行事风格，以及他周围的“同志”和“群众”都在以何种状态生活着。有的人彻底被党洗脑，比如Winston的老婆、邻居Parsons和他的两个孩子；有的人过于聪明，话说的太直白、太透彻，就像Syme；还有Winston自己，连他自己都知道被发现“罪行”是迟早的事情。像过筛子一样，最后留下来的，大概都是people of paralysing stupidity。其恐怖程度难以想象。

下面来说令我印象最深刻的几个片段。首先是一开篇的食堂场景，语言生动而场面却令人惊奇。炖菜散发着金属的酸味，这怎么吃？！食堂旁边的小酒吧也实在是“小”得可以。这些都是人们生活越来越差的真实写照，它们与号角时常传来的激昂广播形成了鲜明地对照。

From the grille at the counter the steam of stew came pouring forth, with a sour metallic smell which did not quite overcome the fumes of Victory Gin. On the far side of the room there was a small bar, a mere hole in the wall, where gin could be bought at ten cents the large nip.

接下来分享两个有趣的口语表达。其一，原来顺便买点酒还能这么说：'Let's pick up a gin on the way.'。这里的 pick up = to buy something or get it from a shop。其二，我看到文中那句 " I think you're so right, I do so agree with you. " 瞬间想到早晨刚学到的地道表达：I couldn't agree more. 哈哈。

还有当Winston的邻居向他要完捐款时，对他记录字体的形容竟然是整齐得像文盲一样。我想这里应该是衬托了Parsons写字时的郑重之感，暗示他被洗脑的程度之深。

Winston found and handed over two creased and filthy notes, which Parsons entered in a small notebook, in the neat handwriting of the illiterate.

此外，当Winston听说邻居Parsons家的小孩已经开始利用插在钥匙孔里的窃听器监听大人后，他的烟丝终于无法控制的掉了出来。这个细节描写，其实也是Winston最真实的心理反应——恐惧。

尽管内容读起来真令人毛骨悚然，我愈发觉得从开篇就设置了的以Winston日记的视角来揭示他的真实思想和社会现状，是一个非常绝妙的角度，将其呈现得淋漓尽致。
