本周，我们看一篇2012年的语法填空。

原题如下：

Mary will ever forget the first time she saw him. He suddenly appeared in class one day,__16_ (wear) sun glasses. He walked in as if he __17___ (buy) the school, and the word quickly got around that he was from New York City.

For some reason he sat beside Mary. Mary felt ___18_ (please), because there were many empty seats in the room. But she quickly realized that it wasn’t her, it was probably the fact that she sat in __19___last row.

老规矩：主抓空前空后，观察特点，找细节。

第16空，He suddenly appeared in class one day,__16_ (wear) sun glasses. 逗号前是主谓结构的句子，副词suddenly修饰动词appeared，后面是个地点状语，直接无视。设空处为动词wear，那么此空必考非谓语。wear这个动作由主语he发出，表主动，且跟谓语动词appear同步发生。因此，第16空答案为wear的现在分词形式，即wearing.

第17空，He walked in as if he __17___ (buy) the school. 根据句意，as if后的从句其实是在吹牛，他不可能买下这所学校，因此该空是在考察虚拟语气。主句为一般过去时，从句用过去完成时表示与过去事实相反的虚拟语气。因此，第17空答案为had bought.

第18空，Mary felt ___18_ (please)...其中，felt为系动词，后面跟表语，主语Mary为人，因此用please的形容词形式pleased，译为“高兴的”.

第19空，it was probably the fact that she sat in __19___last row. 没有提示词，考虚词，本句意为她坐在最后一排，此处应填表特指的冠词。因此，第19空答案为the.

第20空，_20__ he thought he cloud escape attention by sitting at the back, he was wrong. 逗号前后是两个独立的句子，没有连词，加上第20空无提示词，因此本空考察连词。根据两句的逻辑关系，设空处应填表如果的连词。因此，第20空答案为if.

第23空，The new boy looked at the teacher __23__ a few seconds. 本空依然无提示词，填虚词。空后a few seconds意为一段时间，表一个动作持续多久时，应用介词for. 因此，第23空答案为for.

第24空，all the other students wondered __24__ the boy would do. 空前wondered为谓语动词，空后是个缺宾语的从句，设空处指代do的内容。因此，第24空答案为表内容的关系词what.

第25空，Then he took __25_ off...短语take sth off指摘下 / 拿下某物，根据句意，这里指那个男孩摘下眼镜，指代眼镜的代词宾格为them。因此，第25空答案为them.
