If there’s someone asking mewhen I fell in love with Pakistan, my answer will be “from the moment I got offthe plane”, no, it should be “from the moment I got on the plane”.
That’s true, there’re very few Chinese on theplane, but I was not feeling wired. On the contrary, the local people were very enthusiastic and friendly. For example, they took care of me on the whole trip and there’s one man even explaining all the customs in Pakistan to fill my knowledge’s blank for getting a better ready. From that moment on, I really felt the cordiality and kindliness of Pakistani and also the expectancy for the coming internship experience.
The picking up at airport isvery well-off, when I was sitting in the backseat of the car driving fast on the road, listening the pop music which can rock the whole car and seeing the view just beside the road, I feel nothing but peaceful though the views outside are very fresh to me. It’s like after so many pre-working, finally you came here and stand on the land of the city——finally you can feel the real Karachi personally.
We have total 4 Chinese girls in our apartment, which is much to my surprise. We look after each other like sisters and with them I have the brave to face with every challenge. No matter in work or life, AIESECers here are very caring about you to make sure your safe and convenience for experience in Karachi. I really appreciate their responsible for us. When i am about to leave, I just find it hard to say goodbye to them.
My project is ‘EXPERIENCE in KARACHI’, in the meanwhile, I worked at one NGO called KVTC (Karachi vocational trainingcentre). My internship there is very meaningful and fulfilling. From the beginning I expected that I can learn how KVTC operate and how the special students feel here. So I was arranged to intern in HR department.
The discovery is very interesting. KVTC is atraining centre where is full of love and caring for disabled people, they are glad to add anyone in need inside. First of all ,They can provide every student basic skills, such as expressing, mathematics etc. with their further examination and analyses to student, they will teach skills which is most suitable for students ,like block painting, carpenter, sewing and so on. After that , many students can live on their own. The stuffs there are really nice too, they treat me naturally like their colleague. I feel so lucky that I'm able to have a work experience at KVTC and assist them with the daily business for pursuing the purpose of KVTC——‘remove dis from disabled people’.
For the project, I attended many impressive events like MUN and Global Zero. MUN is a very great and important event in Karachi, many youth from high school to university attended, they get together and discuss the issues what the whole world cares about. Everyone of them are full of passion and creation and dare to speak out for letting the world hear youth voice. They all have the passion to make the world better. Obviously , they all take good education but not all school can expand the students’ horizon like theirs, which make me very impressive.
Just liking coin has its two sides, one developing city must have some issues demanding prompt solution.Once it rains in Karachi, the roads will befull of ponding, if the ponding hasn’t been dredged in time, the trafficcondition will get worse even influencing the companies’ natural operation. I can understand that just like some parts in china will be cut off all the electricity when bad weather comes. Every nation has its own problem, all us youth should do is fully learn the situation and do our best to improve it, for a better motherland and for a better country.
The picture below is taken from one highland in the Hill Park. Now I think it’s very similar to the impression Karachi leaves me. One rising city which is based on barren lands is developing rapidly in both economic and politics. Though there still exists some troublesome issues, but I’m pretty sure Karachi will have a brighter and more prosperous future.
This blog can’t express all of my feeling about experience in Karachi, everytime when the different cultures clash with each other, you will find more charms of this city and the more you learn, the more thinking it will bring to you. This internship experience won’t be my last one, and I will come back to Karachi again when it gets more prosperous and flourishing.
Finally there’re some words for the indecisive exchange participants. Karachi is a city full of contradiction, magic and charms, not only the environment and culture here, you will also findthe loveliness of people here. Come here and all you can acquire will be friendship, experience……and even the one you love :P
