Day 4 - A16351 - 甘比精读

To be frank, actually there are not many new words in this article. But the problem is that simple and straightforward as the expression, the physical theories are pretty hard to understand. So I'll simply summarize the content according to the sections divided. Hopefully I would handle it.

* According to Galileo's experiment, the weight of an object has nothing to do with its speed. The force changes speed rather than just set it moving. Whenever a body is not acted on a force it will keep moving in the straight line at the same speed.

* There is no absolute standard of rest. One can say that body A is at rest and body B is moving at constant speed with respect to body A.

   In this sense, there is no absolute position in space.

* accord with 这个背过了,要学会用!

* propagation 传播

* There is no absolute time which is most apparent when considering the objects that travel as fast as light.

* Nothing is fixed. We've got to find something to establish the relativity.

* hitherto 迄今

* The assumption of ether.

If we observe the speed of light relative to ether, when we are moving towards the source of the light its speed should be higher than when we are not.

But Michelson-Morley experiment proved the two speeds were exactly the same.

The mystery pervaded until Einstein pointed out the unnecessarity of ether, thus abandoning the idea of absolute time.

* postulate v. & n. 假定,假设

* intrinsic 固有的,内在的,本身的

  intrinsic to

  e.g. Small shops are intrinsic to the town's character.

          Providing good service is intrinsic to a successful business.

* Observers will not agree on the time which means there is no more absolute time.

* platinum 白金

* Time is not completely separated from space, instead it is combined with it to form an object called space-time.

* arbitrary 专横的,任意的,武断的 又是一个背过的!现在又忘掉了

* spatial 空间的

* stack snapshots 连拍快照
