1）使用《牛津英语搭配词典》查“appeal”，了解它的常用搭配。

今天主要学习 appeal作不可数名词时 “吸引力”的意思。

■ attraction/interest 吸引力；兴趣

[搭配]ADJ.

considerable, great, growing, obvious, powerful, special, strong 相当大的吸引力；极大的魅力；日益增强的感染力；明显的吸引力；特别的魅力

immediate, instant 一见倾心；瞬间产生的吸引力:the book’s immediate appeal to young children 该书让小孩子一眼就看上的魅力

limited, little 有限的吸引力；没多大吸引力

broad, mass, popular, universal, wide 广受欢迎；对大众的吸引力；普遍受欢迎；受到所有人的欢迎: a publication designed for mass appeal 为吸引大众而设计的出版物

aesthetic, commercial, electoral, intellectual, sex, visual 美感；商业上的吸引力；竞选人的感染力；智力魅力；性魅力；视觉上的感染力: Unfortunately, the film lacks commercial appeal. 很可惜，这部电影没有卖点。

[搭配]VERB + APPEAL

have, hold 有感染力；具有吸引力: His views hold no appeal for me. 他的观点我不感兴趣。

broaden, extend, widen 将感染的范围扩大；增加吸引力:We are trying to broaden the appeal of classical music. 我们正努力让更多的人喜欢古典音乐。

lose 失去吸引力/ 魅力

[搭配]APPEAL + VERB

lie in sth 魅力在于…:His considerable appeal lies in his quiet, gentle manner. 他巨大的魅力来自他的温文尔雅。

[搭配]PREP.

~ for 对…的吸引力:School lost its appeal for her in the second year. 到了第二年，学校就再不能引起她的兴趣了。

2）翻译下面的句子：

《经济学人》吸引了许多想提高英文写作的学生。

The Economist has great / populnar / appeal for students who want to improve their English writing skills.

（参考翻译：The Economist has wide appeal for students who want to improve their English writing skills.）

3）结合自己的生活、学习、工作、兴趣等，想象在什么语境下会用到这个表达。先简要描述这个场景，再造句。

场景：只读对于你有吸引力的书不失为一个有效的阅读方法。

造句：It is an efficient reading method: to read books with strong appeal for yourself.

查字典，应该有意识地关注词性（是动词还是名词）和细节（如介词用法）

同时对比权威期刊可以更多了解母语人士的习惯。

群里学友提出➕to 还是for 介词的疑问，我查了查也才弄懂：

从朗文双解字典和柯林斯字典对比查看 可以发现：

做不可数名词表吸引力的时候只有 +for的用法；

The film has great appeal for young audiences.这部电影对年轻观众有很大的吸引力。

同样的意思作动词的时候才有+to的用法 The idea of working abroad really appeals to me.去国外工作的这个想法对我很有吸引力。

了解权威如字典里的用法：

1.牛津搭配词典里有更多例子，作不可数名词时都用的for 参考本文最前面所列。

2.作动词时牛津搭配的例子如下：

be attractive/interesting to sb 有吸引力；有感染力 （英英解释也是用to）

[搭配]ADV.enormously, really, strongly 非常有吸引力；有很大的感染力:

The prospect of teaching such bright children appealed enormously. 想到可以教这么聪明的学生真是太吸引人了。

The idea of retiring early really appeals to me. 提前退休这个想法，我很感兴趣。
