“Ding——”, the tense silence was finally broken by the long, relieving ring, which reverberated through the corridor to reach my ears. Having put things in my bag, I joined the crowds crawling out of the examination hall into the playground, where students had already gathered in packs, talking exuberantly about what they just had been through. //

The heavy rain had subsided into a drizzle, but the thick, bleak clouds still covered the sky; bracing breezes gently kissed me on my hands, my hair and my cheek, and then I saw ripples running across the surface of clear water in the puddles and even heard birds singing in the dancing, green leaves.//

On my winding way through crowds to the gate, I looked around seemingly to find something that had been lost. All of a sudden, my moving view came to a halt with eyes falling on a familiar profile, and at the same moment my feet stopped abruptly; in a split second, a torrent of excitement streamed to every bit of my soul as I recognized it was her; however, in the next split second, my heart convulsively sank and my soul withered like a flower dying for want of water, as I detected that she was standing there obviously for somebody to come. //

Saturated in such a mixture of exhilaration and disappointment, I cast her one more tender glance that signified adieu. Turning,  I headed straight for the gate, murmuring to myself: adieu, my high school days; adieu, my friends; adieu, my lovely damsel. I went through the gate, and kept marching on, leaving these precious things far, far behind me.
