01 A Ball to Roll Around (3) (散文54篇详解Day 3)

Life, I believe, asks a continuous series of adjustments to reality. The more readily a person is able to make these adjustments, the more meaningful his own private world becomes. The adjustment is never easy. I was bewildered and afraid. But I was lucky.

Life, I believe, asks a continuous series of adjustments to reality.

continuous,很明显是continue的形容词,表“连续不断的”;

a series of, 表“一系列的……”,那a continous series of则表示“一系列连续不断的……”;

adjustment,是动词adjust的名词,表“调整”;注意后面的adjustment后面的介词是to,和动词adjust to是一样的;

主要注意的是“I believe”放在了“life”主语后面,原本是应该放在最前面,写做“I believe life asks a continuous ...

The more readily a person is able to make these adjustments, the more meaningful his own private world becomes.

The adjustment is never easy. I was bewildered and afraid. But I was lucky.

Life, I believe, asks a continuous series of adjustments to reality. The more readily a person is able to make these adjustments, the more meaningful his own private world becomes. The adjustment is never easy. I was bewildered and afraid. But I was lucky.
