how to write a a paper

this is a summary of a video downloaded from the internet.

1. The order of research is "idea-->paper->research", the latter two steps are often reversed.

2. Any idea can be researched, not only the fantastic ones, but also the weedy ones, because they can be later developped to be more interesting.

3. The purpose of my paper is to convey my idea, not to describe the idea.

    b. it's an interesting problem
    c. it's an unsolved problem
    d. here is my idea
    e. my idea works(details, data)
    f. compares to others'

4. Structure
    a. abstrat (4 sentences, usually @ last)
        state the problem
        it's an interesting problem
        what my solution achieves
        what follows from my solution
    b. introduction (1 page), survey the whole paper, and forward refference every important part
        describe the problem
        state my contribution (this drives the whole paper)
    c. the problem (1 page)
    d. my idea (2 pages)
        i MUST provide the details, but FIRST convey the idea
        introduce the problem and the idea using EXAMPLES, and then the general case
        conveying the intuition is primary
    e. the details (5 pages)
        provide enough evidence to support each claim in the intro
    f. related work (1~2 pages)
        giving credit to others does not diminish the credit i get from other
        acknowledge weakness in my approach
        making sure the related work is accurate: disscuss with the author
    g. conclusions and future work (0.5 pages)

5. Getting help
    a. non-experts are also very good
    b. each reader can only read my paper for the 1st time once! use them carefully.
    c. ask them about their understandings
    d. be grateful for criticism as well as praise

6. language style
    a. show strong visual structure in my paper
    b. use active voice, the passive voice can DEADENS my paper
    c. use simple, direct expression
