Today is Sunday.

Mama said she didn't like the fire engines either, because it meant the bonfires had already started. Henny said she liked to watch the bonfires, which frightened Mama. She said that she would never want anyone of them near a fire. Charlie looked the downcast faces and told them he would show them something more amazing. He asked all of them, including Mama and Papa, to go downstairs and waited for him. After a quarter, he held an even bigger box and went downstairs to meet them in the street. They were confused about what would be inside. Mama said to Charlie that he had already bought the girls firecrackers and he shouldn't spend too much money on the presents for them. Papa said that it was absolutely who he had been, sometimes a millionaire and sometimes a poor guy without a nickel in his pocket. Charlie laughed and said that there was no one who he wanted to save money for. Then he took something out of the box. They looked like the sawed-off end of a broomstick.
