Reading, an urgent problem for children

Once for a long period of time, reading is exclusive and expensive activity for upper class man and there will be nearly no chance for ordinary people to access the book media which store the knowledge condensed for maybe hundreds of years. But, through the unwavering efforts of human ancient, the cost of spreading knowledge are becoming lower and lower, but as we all know that technology is some kind of two-sided sword, and sometimes in the contrary, it make just prove the economical principle——only scarcity make higher value. It is natural and understandable for us to lost interest to the interior goods, viewing from a superficial degree, which means we are faced with a big problem.So,terribly, the book nowadays end up failing to catch the attention of folks, especially children who will be the tomorrow ‘s mainstream consumer for publishing.

So what is the reason behind this kind of troublesome situation? In BBC2’s The School that Got Teens Reading,a documentary recording comedian Javone Prince's efforts to revive the reading interests of Year Ten students(aged 14-15), it leads us to find some answers to the above mentioned question from attempts finished in a top comprehensive schools.After watching this video, some explanations to why book lost its allure to children occurred to my mind. The rapid development of entertainment industry, just taking TV and Game industry for example, distracts children from book more and more easily. And the children who are using digital device are more accustomed to sliced information rather than a bunch of paper which means you need more power and encourage to lift the well of knowledge and absorb that. If children’s parents are the lover of information age, the children may be inculcated by their parent’s seldom-touching-book behaviors and gradually become a book-hater. Some instant messaging apps, like Facebook, Snapchat, also urge you to take and have a glance at your internet devices more often and make consistent and effective reading less likely.
