As the year of the Monkey is particularly important to Yan’s family, they are having some special decorations hand-made.

Paper scrolls are normally put up on the both side of the door way. They are certain strict rules to mirror the words, like if there are characters at the left-hand side say sky, for example, then there should be one in the right-hand side saying ground. And there’s a rain, there’s a wind. There’s red, there’s green.

So, it’s kind of a thing that brings us that good blessing and good wishes to the New Year.

This is the pair for our whole family. Here it says sending over the old year with 3 sheep, and this one says welcoming the new Spring with 6 monkeys.

And Yan is wih us now. Yan thank you so very much for the invitation. Dave and I are really honored that we are going to celebrate the New Year with your family.

Welcome! Thank you. Now we want to be the perfect guests. So, what can we do to help?

You know there’s a saying in Chinese for the New Year, is actually, “饺子就酒,越喝越有”. Meaning that the dumpling with Baijiu, the more you eat or drink, the richer you will be.
