Chinese warship Shenzhen to dock at Kochi port on Friday

Kochi (Kerala), Aug.6 (ANI): A People’s Republic of China (PLA Navy) ship, Shenzhen, a destroyer, will arrive on Friday at Kochi Port on its return journey to the Chinese Port of Zhanjiang, having completed an anti-piracy operation in the Gulf of Aden.

The Chinese warship will make the port call. Indian warships have also made port calls at Chinese ports previously.

It is worth mentioning that the Chinese warship had earlier docked at Kochi port, when it took part in an exercise with the Indian Navy, in 2005.

Senior Captain Zhao Chang Sheng commands the warship. Rear Admiral Yao Zhilou Deputy Commander South Sea Fleet is also embarked onboard.

According to an official press release, the ship and its crew members will depart Kochi Port on Aug. 11, 2009.

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China Zhang Yan, is expected to meet Vice Admiral Sunil K. Damle, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command on Aug. 10.

Interactions between the two Navies and other social events including sports activities are scheduled during the visit.
