China's top political advisory body concludes annual session

BEIJING, March 13 (Xinhua) -- The 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's top political advisory body, began the closing meeting of its annual session on Tuesday.

Top Communist Party of China (CPC) and state leaders Hu Jintao, Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang were present.
The session, opened on March 3, approved the report on the work of the Standing Committee of the 11th CPPCC National Committee over the past year.
By 2 p.m. on March 8, CPPCC National Committee members had submitted 6,069 proposals concerning the country's scientific development and the transformation of economic pattern.
According to the report on the proposals, the political advisors paid great attention to comprehensive issues concerning the country's reform and development, people's well-being, and social harmony and lasting stability.
Political advisors raised more than 2,600 proposals regarding the steady and relatively fast development of the national economy.
They put forward more than 1,600 proposals on developing social undertakings and improving people's livelihood, more than 1,200 proposals on strengthening and innovating social management, and promoting social harmony and stability.
Political advisors also offered suggestions on developing real economy, consolidating the foundation of economic development, coordinating urban and rural social development, and promoting migrant workers' settlement in cities.
They also offered suggestions on development of small and micro-enterprises, establishment of social credibility system, low-income houses, and rural old-age pension programs.
A meeting will be held on March 19 to transfer the proposals to 175 related departments and units for further handling.
The CPPCC is a patriotic united front organization of the Chinese people, serving as a key mechanism for multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC, and a major manifestation of socialist democracy.
Members of the CPPCC are representatives of the CPC and non-Communist parties, personages without party affiliation, and representatives of people's organizations, ethnic minorities and various social strata.
The CPPCC also has the representation of compatriots of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, returned overseas Chinese, and specially invited people.
