Zhen, my sister-in-law, had some conflicts with our father-in-law.

Her son cried a lot every day. Father-in-law said it was the result of giving the child a wrong name.

In his opinion, children should be given names according to their own five elements (五行).

Zhen named her son Dagang. He said the name didn't fit for the five elements of the boy.

He asked Zhen to change the name into Dajiang. She refused because the name is like the name of a man of old age.

Zhen went to transact the identity card of the boy, which meant that the name would be fixed.

When he knew it, he was very angry and telephoned to CH, the husband of Zhen.

CH then telephoned to criticize Zhen. The couple quarreled on the phone.

They were so angry with each other that they even wanted to divorce.

Father-in-law also said the name of my son was not good. He was angry with us trying to change our mind but in vain.

Even now, when there is something wrong with my son, he wrong blame us and ask us to change the name again.

When I gave my baby daughter name of Zhimei, he agree. Maybe he didn't care about the names of girls.

His thought is very traditional and he thinks that boys are more important then girls.
