The official Sina Weibo account of the Guinness World Records announced on Tuesday that Chinese vlogger Li Ziqi broke the world record for “Most subscribers for a Chinese language channel on YouTube” set by herself with 14.1 million subscribers on Jan 25.
吉尼斯世界纪录官方微博2月2日宣布，1月25日，中国短视频博主@李子柒 以1410万的YouTube订阅量刷新了由她创下的“最多订阅量的YouTube中文频道”的吉尼斯世界纪录称号。

这里的subscriber指视频频道的“订阅用户”，而我们打电话时听到的“the subscriber you dialed is busy now”中subscriber指的是“电信服务用户”，所以，这个词通常表示“付费给某个机构以得到某种定期服务的人”，来自于动词形式subscribe，而“订阅”这个行为或服务就是subscription。不过，在互联网内容大量涌现的今天，很多内容服务都是可以免费订阅的。当然，也有一些提供付费订阅服务的平台。
付费订阅（pay-to-read/paid content）服务一般分为：单次订阅（pay as you read）、周订阅（weekly subscription service）、包月订阅（monthly subscription service）、包年订阅（yearly subscription service）等。

吉尼斯世界纪录官方微博表示：

去年7月首创世界纪录
Li uploaded her first video on YouTube, about how to make a dress using the cloth dyed with color extracted from grape skin, in 2017.
2017年，李子柒在YouTube发布第一支视频“用葡萄皮染的布做裙子”。
She went viral overseas afterwards with her short videos about cooking Chinese food, making traditional Chinese handicrafts such as embroidery and living an idyllic rural life in China.
之后，她用短视频展现中国食物的烹制过程、制作刺绣等传统中国手工艺品以及乡村田园生活，在海外走红。

“走红”有两个常用的英文表达，一个是go viral，另一个是become a hit。前者表示某件事或者现象就像病毒一样迅速传播开来，所以用viral这个词，它是virus（病毒）的形容词形式；后者当中的hit作名词时本身就有“风行一时的事物”之意。
比如：Some apps can quickly go viral and gain millions of users.（有些应用程序会迅速走红并获得数百万的用户。）The song became a massive hit in 1998.（这首歌在1998年风靡大江南北。）
On July 16 last year, she had 11.4 million subscribers on YouTube, breaking the Guinness record at the time.
2020年7月16日，李子柒获得1140万的YouTube订阅，打破了当时的吉尼斯世界纪录。

在英语口语里说到打破记录，我们常常会用到break the record。
今天小狮子来讲讲它的多样表达。
1. set a record
They want to set a record by making Buffalo's largest cookie.
他们想打破巴甫洛最大的曲奇的纪录。
I checked the sales receipts, and we've just set a record.
我看过了营业额，我们刚创下新纪录。
【小知识】
如果说set/put the record straight，就跟打破记录没多大关系了，它的意思是陈述真相；澄清是非。
She's decided to write her memoirs to set the record straight once and for all.她决定撰写回忆录以彻底澄清事实。
2. chalk up records
chalk sth up的意思是获（胜）；得（分），比如：
Today's victory is the fifth that the Irish team has chalked up this year.
今天的胜利是爱尔兰队今年获得的第5次胜利。
New world records in the track and field events are chalked up from time to time in the past few years.
近几年来经常出现新的世界田径纪录。
3. create/establish/make/register a new record
She established a new European record in the high jump.
她创造了欧洲跳高的新纪录。
4. beat/smash/shatter a previous record
beat、smash和shatter都有打、打破的意思，这几个词是不是比break更激烈更生动呢？
She beat the world record in the three events she entered on her way to two gold medals and a silver.
她在三项竞赛中打破了世界纪录，获得两枚金牌和一枚银牌。
The film shattered all previous box office records.
这部电影打破了以往所有的票房纪录。
5. surpass all previous records
surpass的意思是超过，优于，胜过，比如：
His time for the 100 meters surpassed the previous world record by one hundredth of a second.
他以0.01秒的优势打破了100米短跑的前世界纪录。
形容出乎意料就可以用到这个词哦：
The book's success has surpassed everyone's expectations.
这本书获得了出乎所有人意料的成功。
口语里也有刷新记录的表达，可以翻译为：
amend/rewrite/renew/better/improve a record。
好啦，既然本篇重点就是record，介绍三个易混淆习语吧。
① go on record 公开发表（意见等）；公开表明（观点）
Everything that is said between them will go on record.
他们的谈话都要记录下来.
② off the record 私下说的；不供发表的
She made it clear that her comments were strictly off the record.
她说得很清楚，她的这些评论绝不许对外公布。
③ on the record 公开发表；公开表明
None of the company directors were prepared to comment on the record yesterday.
昨天，公司董事没有哪个准备公开发表意见。
