(2) Follows a fairly standard format

(3) Typically 3 paragraphs long

Recommended range: 2 to 5

(4) It is not and exhaustive review of your general topic

should focus on the specific hypothesis/aim of your study

3. Detailed tips

(1) Keep paragraphs short

(2) Write for a general audience

Clear, concise, non-techinical (尽量省去技术细节)

(3) Step by step:

Known——Unknown——Specific Question/Hypothesis
Summarize the previous studies at a high level! (细节放在Discussion)
Explicitly state your research question/aim/hypothesis
("We asked whether"; "Our hypothesis was")

(4) Emphasize how your study fills in the gaps (the unknown)

(5) Do not answer the research question (no results or implications)
