5. Much of the system design is about making the proper trades among four variables:

• Frequency (broadcast frequencies: regulatory agencies | internal frequencies: available components, cost, performance)
• Signal Strength (output power vs. battery life, safety, government regulations, cost)
• Coding (standards, Interoperability, ease of recovery--microprocessor)
• Modulation Scheme (standards; interoperability, ease of recovery--microprocessor + radio influences LINERITY requirements of radio)
