The Skin surface, defined by H. Edelsbrunner, is a smooth manifold in any dimension. In 3D case, the skin is a smooth surface formed by spherical and hyperbolic patches

The past few years, we worked on how to improve the mesh and construct the mesh dynamically:

or it can morph from one shape to another. Since there are no completely smooth surfaces which model molecules, we apply the skin surface to molecular modeling.

Moreover, the tunnels, voids, or pockets can be found on the molecular surfaces:
