One English-language blog headline: “Jackie Chan is a Know-Nothing Self-Loathing Racist.”The comments were carried less broadly on the mainland, which might have cheered Mr. Chan’s camp. But as word has reached the Chinese Internet, the reaction has been mostly negative. “Jackie Chan Deeply Disappointed Me,” read the headline on one Chinese-language blog. The writer questioned whether the actor truly meant his words or whether they were intended to placate authorities in the fast-growing, movie-loving mainland market. “It’s all his own decision and we have to respect it,” the blog writer said. “But everything has its limits and it’s not good to go too far.”Others are calling for boycotts of his movies and of a concert next month planned at Beijing’s “Bird’s Nest” National Stadium. “From now on, boycott any movie with Jackie Chan involved,” said Bei Feng, a prominent blogger.Mr. Chan’s company, JC Group, couldn’t be reached.Mr. Chan has shown deference to Chinese media restrictions in the past. His latest movie won’t be seen in China, as its producers predicted Chinese authorities would object to its violence but declined to edit out the more brutal scenes. Its creators have said they are comfortable with the decision.Carlos Tejada / Juliet Ye
