Based on a scientific approach (developed by the late Dr.Benjamin Bloom head of the American Educational Association) to teaching critical thinking skills our class provides students with a set of building blocks that enables them to effectively develop these skills. The critical thinking sections of our textbooks also give students the tools they will need to formulate their own opinions organize their thoughts, and express themselves effectively. Critical thinking skills and the ability to organize your thoughts and then effectively articulate these thoughts orally are essential for success in life, both in the classroom and in the real world. Our classes teach and nurture these skills so students can improve their grades as well as gain invaluable skills that are actually applicable in real life situations and conversations. Furthermore, conversation topics can often change and interchange as the conversation progresses, students need to be flexible, identify the subject, adapt and re-adjust their thought process quickly in order to reply to the person they are conversing with effectively and in an engaging manner. This can be very challenging for most Chinese students, but our classes can teach and nurture this skill.

学生在每个级别将阅读2本书左右。Students read approximately 2 books per level.

One of the biggest academic challenges faced by Chinese students studying in America is lack of reading skills. Students in America are required to read for many hours a night and discuss what they have read in class and analyze different aspects of the text:subject, cause, effect, alternative theories, and then develop a well structured essay that includes a (hypothesis, supporting paragraphs that support its hypothesis, research material that supports the essays’ theories and text, detailed analysis, proof of critical thinking and then conclusion).In class, students’ answers are often challenged and discussed within a classroom discussion (Teacher to student, student to student, student to teacher) in order to ensure students’ full understanding of the context (why their answer was correct or wrong) and also to nurture critical thinking,cognitive ability skills and problem solving.

In small discussion based classes, students read literature from the Harvard Top 50 (the 50 greatest American novels) as well as selected non-fiction works. All of the literature included, both fiction and non-fiction form part of the Common Core. The NewSAT (which started in 2016) draws its reading material from the Common Core.This class is excellent preparation for the SAT and gives students the life long joy of reading.

We bring up the level of students,increasing their understanding of vocabulary in context so that by level 5 they are reading original famous works of literature unabridged just as students atAmerica’s top Universities and High schools are.

As each book relates to a specific aspect or historical period in American culture students also learn about American history and culture.

作为一个美国人,他的童年足迹却遍布全世界。由于父亲是一位毕业于哈佛大学的著名土木工程师,迈克尔·高德特先生从很小开始便周游世界。迈克尔的父亲在香港长大,就读于德瑞国际学校和香港国际学校,而后在一位精通招生咨询的家庭密友、也是他的哈佛校友萝丝·罗恩霍普特女士的帮助下,迈克尔被美国一所最顶尖的寄宿高中录取。

高德特先生毕业于伦敦大学亚非学院,获得语言学(研究语言、其结构和发展的学科)与东南亚研究专业荣誉学士学位。后来,他考入了著名的法国巴黎索邦神学院,毕业后取得了法语语言文学学位。

他取得了加州大学伯克利分校亚洲研究专业文学硕士学位,还持有英国剑桥大学成人英语教学证书。而后他在泰国和中国著名的大学和顶尖的学习中心担任英语讲师,还被泰国政府选中为泰国东北部英语教师进行教学技能培训。

他曾主持过超过300名泰国各地的英文老师参加的学术会议。因为他在泰国教育事业的突出成绩,他曾受到奖励,还得到了程逸府泰国公共学校系统主席的推荐信。

后来,高德特先生曾任一家著名的法国-比利时贸易公司Eloy Becker的咨询顾问,为保时捷、空中客车公司以及雷诺&雪铁龙提供中国市场营销战略支持。

而后高德特搬到中国上海,在Luning亚洲公司(价值10亿欧元的德国制造公司)担任中国南方采购经理一职, 曾服务过沃尔玛、C&A、麦德龙等公司客户。

在为Luning公司工作期间,高德特先生与他人联合创办了外商独资葡萄酒贸易公司——金门葡萄,该公司于2014年被贵州茅台酒股份有限公司成功收购。

高德特先生也曾在位于中国的英孚公司工作过,他负责组织课程计划、基于中国学生的语言文化背景为资深外籍教师提出课程建议、也曾担任资深英语讲师。

高德特先生熟练掌握四门语言(中文普通话、泰语、法语和英语),他曾在欧洲、亚洲和美国许多顶尖学术机构工作和学习过。

高德特先生在国际业务、创业、语言学、非母语英语教学(ESL)课程方面兼具深度和广度的丰富经验使他能够满足各种客户的需求,无论他们是英语初学者、想留美的学生、还是渴望在国际市场中取得成功、急需掌握英语技能和西方商业文化知识的商务人士。
