对哈勃望远镜的进程和花费很感兴趣，找了些资料，具体如下：
Hubble Telescope was funded in the 1970s, with a proposed launch in1983. Congress eventually approved funding of US $36 million for1978. Construction of the main mirror began in 1979 and was completed by the end of 1981. In 1983 the telescope was named Edwin Hubble.
By technical delays, budget problems, NASA was forced to postponethe launch date until March and then September 1986. By this time,the total project budget had risen to US$1.175 billion.
But the project was beset again by the Challenger disaster(1986). When finally launched in 1990, Hubble's main mirror was found tohave been ground incorrectly, compromising the telescope's capabilities. The optics were corrected to their intended quality by a servicing mission in1993.
The Hubble cost-to-launch was $4.7 billion in FY 2010 dollars; The cost through SM-1 in 1993, when Hubble’s mirror problem was fixed, was $5.8 billion.
From its original total cost estimate of about US $400 million, the telescope cost about US $4.7 billion by the time of its launch. Hubble's cumulative costs were estimated to be about US$10billionin 2010, twenty years after launch.

哈勃重11110公斤，按美元汇率6.8计算，我给哈勃粗算了一笔经济账：
（1）1986年，即哈勃产品研制完毕时，哈勃共花费11.75亿美元，每公斤约11万美元，约72万人民币。这可是1986年当时的美元，现在物价涨了好多倍，折算到现在每公斤肯定超过11万美元啦。
（2）1990年，哈勃发射时，哈勃共花费47亿美元，根据资料这个数是折算至2010年的美元，1990年当时数字应没那么大。这样，折算至2010年，每公斤约42万美元，约287万人民币。
（3）1993年，在轨维修光学系统，还是折算到2010年，相当于又花费了11亿美元，约75亿人民币。
哈勃望远镜举世闻名，对人类贡献卓著，成果丰硕。看了它的建造进程和花费，感叹不已，一句话：好东西不好做，好东西不便宜！
